Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a professional refinishing peel or resurfacing technique used for painless removal of superfluous or vellus hair and exfoliation of dead skin cell layers with a physician's scalpel blade. This simple and safe medical exfoliation procedure gently shaves the epidermis resulting in a smooth, soft look and feel for the skin.

How Dermaplaning Works

Also known as epidermal leveling or blading Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that provides a safe alternative to chemical peels or Microdermabrasion and is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hair (peach fuzz), has extremely sensitive skin, redness or rosacea, or visible facial veins. This is a great treatment for pregnant or nursing women who want a deep exfoliation but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk. It is also the first choice for clients who have excess vellus hair on the skin this hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oil in the follicles, so removing the hair gives a healthier looking skin.

Here at Boccabella Beauty, we use a sterile #10 surgical blade for Dermaplaning. With light strokes, holding the skin taut  and angle the blade to abrade the skin's surface.

how Often Should You Dermaplane?

Dermaplaning is usually performed once every 4-6 weeks. The normal skin growth cycle is around 30 days and since dermaplaning removes about 2-3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. We recommend about 3-4 weeks between treatments.

Dermaplaning Pros:
  • Unlike most exfoliating peel procedures, this one uses no chemicals and, therefore, causes less irritation.

  • Compared to Microdermabrasion, Jessner's TCA or Dermabrasion, Dermaplaning is very cost effective and less invasive.

  • Dermaplaning aids in the sloughing off of dead skin cells, when removed the skin begins to expel the impurities from within creating healthier and revitalized skin

  • Enhances the penetration of cosmeceutical products.

  • The more often you do it, the better you look. Recommended every 4-6 weeks.

  • Specific problem areas can be more easily targeted.

  • Improves the surface layers of the skin with a slight reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and unwanted hair.
